FAQ
At Functional Beings, we're here to help. Below, you'll find quick answers to common questions about our services and more.
GENERAL

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact exercise system designed to strengthen muscles, improve postural alignment, and increase flexibility. It focuses on core strength, balanced muscle movement, and body awareness.

Do I need any prior experience to join a Pilates class?
No prior experience is necessary. Our Reformer Core classes are designed for all individuals from beginners to advanced practitioners. Instructors will guide you through the basics and help you progress at your own pace.

Should I start with group or private session?
Most of our new clients do well in a Functional Reformer class. With fewer than five participants, we focus on correcting your posture to ensure you get the most out of your first session. If you have chronic back pain, are recovering from an injury, or are pregnant, a one-on-one session is recommended to evaluate your situation. For those looking to gain a better understanding of their body, we offer a trial private pack. After a private session, you can apply what you've learned in group classes.

Which group class should I start with?
If you're new to Pilates, we recommend starting with the Reformer Jumpstart class. In this class, you'll learn the foundational principles of each exercise, helping you maximize your workout and adapt your body to the Pilates system. If you’re more experienced or have practiced Pilates before, you can choose between the Reformer Jumpstart or Reformer Functional class. Once you're confident with the basics, feel free to challenge yourself with our Reformer Core & More class.

How often should I do Pilates to see results?
It depends on your body, your schedule and your goals. While Pilates can be done daily, the best results come from practicing consistently 2-3 times per week. Some people may benefit from doing 4-5 times a week. Consistency is key to improving strength, flexibility, and overall fitness.
I have an injury.
Can I still attend Pilates sessions?
We suggest scheduling a one-on-one session with a physiotherapist before joining a Pilates class. This will help ensure you are cleared for exercise and can participate safely. Depending on your comfort level with your injury, you can either schedule a group or private Pilates session to stay active.

Can Pilates help with back pain?
Yes, Pilates can be beneficial for those with back pain by strengthening the core muscles, improving posture, and enhancing spinal alignment. Always inform your instructor about any existing conditions so they can modify exercises accordingly.

How long are the classes?
Classes last about 50 minutes, providing enough time to challenge and strengthen your muscles effectively.

Is Pilates suitable for all ages?
Yes, Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. We can tailor exercises to accommodate individual needs and capabilities.
In our group classes, we welcome participants over 13 years old with a minimum height of 140 cm.
